GIVING BACK

What is Megaesophagus?

Megaesophagus (also known as Mega E or ME) is a condition in dogs that decreases the mobility in the muscles of the esophagus. The decreased function of the muscles causes an enlargement of the esophagus.  Because the muscles are no longer functioning properly, when dogs eat or drink, the muscles don’t contract to push the food into the stomach. As a result, food and liquid sit in the esophagus and will not make its way into the stomach for proper nutrients.

Animals that have megaesophagus can live a long happy life. However, depending on the severity of the condition it can be difficult to manage. It is important to know the symptoms for early detection which will make it easier to manage. It’s also important to talk with your veterinarian about the proper management solutions to fit your dog’s needs. It will take time, patience, and an understanding of the condition; however, it is one hundred percent worth it!

Pj’s Pets
Megaesophagus Awareness Mission

We all love to feed dogs treats and table scraps, including myself. For fur babies with Megaesophagus, feeding them scraps and treats can be detrimental to their overall health and wellbeing.  Feeding is an essential part of managing Megaesophagus. Because of this and in honor of my fur baby PJ, Pj’s Pets developed a line of custom designed bandanas to bring awareness, start the conversation, and ask before giving your pup anything to eat or drink.

The custom designed bandanas say, “Please don’t feed me. I’m a Mega E Fur Baby.” They are 100% donated by Pj’s Pets to any dog that has Megaesophagus.

To continue Pj’s Pets mission and bring Megaesophagus Awareness and allow the Mega E bandanas to remain 100% donated, a portion of Pj’s Pets profits will go towards material and labor of the Mega E bandanas to all Mega E fur babies.

If you have a Mega E fur baby and would like a "Don’t feed me" bandana e-mail your request to pjspetstore@gmail.com
